WHAT IS SHAZAM?
Simply, ‘Shazam’ is a mobile app that recognises music around you.You can use Shazam to identify what you’re hearing on the radio, TV, in a store, on your device, or anywhere you hear a song. Then check your Shazam library to find songs you’ve identified, and discover new music based on what you’ve Shazamed. You can even identify music playing in another app when you have headphones on!When Shazam identifies the song, it’s saved to your Shazam Library. After you identify a song, you can connect to music services to listen to your Shazam.
If you don’t have an internet connection, the app still creates a unique digital fingerprint to match against the Shazam database the next time your device is connected to the internet. If a song can’t be identified, it will disappear from your pending Shazams.Let me explain it more with an example!
Let's say you are in a shop and you like the music you're hearing. Start the app and tap the Shazam button. Let Shazam App ‘listen to’ the music you are hearing.
In few seconds you will be given the name of the track and the artist and information such as lyrics, video, album info, artist biography, concert tickets and recommended tracks by Shazam!

WHY WE NEED TO SHAZAM?
From getting your local stations playing JAY B / Def. songs to bringing JAY B / Def. to your country, Shazam can be helpful in many ways.Shazam Charts
Shazam generates its own charts based on how many shazams a song gets. To rank on the chart, the song could be demonstrating a pattern of moving quickly through Shazam’s charts. The more people Shazam a song, the higher it climbs on the charts. There is a global chart that features the top 200 most shazamed tracks in the world, and also country-based and city-based charts, featuring the most shazamed tracks in select cities and countries and global genre charts. Users can discover popular songs through the Shazam charts.These Shazam charts are used as a popularity metric to pre-determine hits by radio and TV stations, by labels to spot rising talent and Artists Management Companies , Concert Organizers to determine where to hold concerts.Radio plays
Radio is a great way to reach the general public & promote music. Radio Stations analyze Shazam data to determine what is more popular/ what is on demand and what should be played on Radio. As a part of Apple Inc., Shazam curates their own playlists based on what is trending on Shazam every week using Apple Music. Not only Apple Music, other streaming platforms like Spotify, Amazon Prime etc. too use Shazam data to determine what’s popular at the moment. That makes songs being added to several playlists with unique listeners and end up going ‘Viral’ eventually.Location Permission
Although it’s only an option, enabling location permission in your device for Shazam App helps you in getting your local Radio Station play Jaebeom’s music & a local event organizer inviting Jaebeom to the concert there, since they have the access to data for regional, national and worldwide Shazams.When you have ‘location permission’ enabled, your Shazam counts towards both Local & Global charts. But if you haven’t enabled ‘permission’ then your Shazams will only count towards the Global Chart.
SHAZAM TUTORIALS
ANDROID Devices
Download the Shazam App for Android here.Steps:
1. Play the given track on any device/platform.
2. Open Shazam app & Shazam.
3. Once done, open YOUR PHONE’S ‘Settings’ App.
(Just to be safe, please wait till the song ends to clear data.)
4. To clear Data, follow the path “Settings > Apps/Applications > Shazam > Storage > Clear Data”Note:
• ‘1 Shazam / 1 hour’ limit for Android devices can be bypassed by clearing App Data in your device.
• By clearing Data after an every Shazam, an Android user can Shazam around 5 times within 15 minutes!
APPLE (IOS) Devices

☛ MacOSSteps:
1. Play the given track on any device/platform.
2. Open the Shazam app
3. Turn ON location/microphone
4. Tap on the Shazam logo and Shazam.Note:
• Clearing history/data is not available on IOS anymore. Hence, please make sure to ‘Remove’ the song from Shazam library before Shazam-ing again, as displayed in the tutorial.
• Shazam only counts 1 Shazam per device for 24hours. Since you can’t CLEAR DATA on IOS devices, you can only Shazam ONECE PER DAY (24 hours)But, an IOS user can also use Siri (Virtual Assistant for IOS) & SNAPCHAT to Shazam in IOS devices, contributing for 3 Shazams per DAY!
☛ Shazam & Siri (built-in virtual assistant in Apple devices)
Shazam is built-in to Siri from iOS 8, so you can discover songs playing by asking Siri what song is playing. Siri will then identify the song, and provide you with an iTunes link to the song.Steps:
1. Play JAY B on any device/platform.
(Once you open Siri, your IOS device will stop playing music. So it’s recommended playing music using another device if possible)
2. Open ‘Siri’ & command ‘Siri’ to identify the song.
Examples for commands you can use,
- “Siri, What is this song”
- “Siri, what is playing now”
- “Siri, Shazam this song”This can be done in iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac and even on HomePod!
GOOGLE CHROME

• You can only use the Shazam extension on a tab that plays music. (Ex: the exact tab you are playing music or watching a drama / movie.Setting Up:
1. Follow the above link and add Shazam Browser Extension to your Chrome browser.
2. After installing the extension click on the “Extensions” button that looks like a jigsaw puzzle piece in the toolbar next to your profile avatar. (If it's not visible there, you can find it in 'Settings')
3. A drop-down menu will show you all the installed extensions that are enabled. Next to each extension, you’ll see a “pushpin” icon.
4. How to Shazam:
1. Go to the tab you are playing music or watching the video. (Can be YouTube / Spotify Web / Netflix / SNS etc.)
2. Click on the 'Shazam' icon on the toolbar.Note:
• To Shazam more than once using the Chrome extension, you need to close the browser and repeat the above steps again.
SNAPCHAT
Snapchat also has the Shazam music finder tool in-built in the app. To identify a song on Snapchat, simply open the camera screen, then press and hold the screen. After you Shazam the song, you can send it as a snap.Click here to download the Snapchat app!Steps:
1. Open the camera screen, then press and hold on this screen to Shazam a song.
You can send your new music discovery as a Snap as well.
To see your previous Shazams in Snapchat, go to the Snapchat Settings screen and tap on Shazam under Additional Services.
